SG APe 771-02 is an alloyed nodular iron with very high tensile strength. The alloying material Cu and Mn in combination with heat treatment will give the material a very high structural strength. The heat treatment can be flame, induction of laser hardening. The surface of the componentThe heat treatment can be flame, induction of laser hardening. The surface of the component is rapidly heated to at least 900 C and immediately quenched with water. This transformation (austenite to marten site) hardening treatment can produce a hardened zone to a depth of 4 mm with a hardness of 56 +/- HRc. The rest of the material has a hardness of 240-280 HB.
The material is used for press tools within the automotive industries. The material has been tested for 1 million compressions. Other applications for the material are i.e. cylinder lining, valve seat and camshafts.
